Happy Fall,  y’all!

Things are cooling down outdoors and Twin Birch & Teasel’s fiber adventures are heating up.

We had a great time on Saturday, Oct. 12 when about 20 fiber folks from the Piedmont FiberShed program and the Twisted Threads fiber group got together in our dye studio for a day of color experiments.

We had 7 natural dye pots going both inside our lower level studio and outdoors in the grassy area.  The colors we extracted from Wood Sorrel, Marigold, Fresh Mint, Cochineal bugs, Logwood, Black Walnut and Cosmos were all different and very surprising.  We dyed fabric, cotton, wool, mohair and some blends.  Some with mordant, some without.  We even tried an after dip with ammonia (glad to have an outdoor dye area for that one). Enjoy these few photos I snatched to capture the moment.

From the Dye studio we migrated across the street to Peppercorn Coffee Shop & Event space where owner Joan Underwood, invited us to set up our potluck lunch.  What a spread!

After lunch a bit of knitting and spinning time was enjoyed before we left for our tour of M&M Alpaca FarmFarm Managers Laina and Sarah guided us into the world of premium fiber that included a bit of petting time with the animals and tons of information about the fiber, care and feeding of these magnificent creatures.

Our woodshop and retail/studio space keeps us hopping here in Siler City but we’ll be on the road again for the Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival (SAFF) in Fletcher North Carolina Oct. 25-27.  Visit us in the Davis Arena.  You’ll find us in space #243 and 245 with our Twin Birch Products, a plethora of Baskets, wearable art from Linda, the Triangle loom maven @Person’l Designs and some other surprises.

We are planning a few pre-holiday events when we return.  I’ll send out more info about “The Cellar’s Market” @ FireClay Wine Cellars in December, some in-town happenings, hands-on classes and Thursday Fiber Night get togethers.

Remember, we are a great space to host a fiber night of your own.  Just send us an email (sales@twinbirchproducts.com) or call the shop 919-799-7577.

Happy October!!!

We’ll have goods, yarns and wearables from a local alpaca farm and  stunning hand spun local yarns here for the event.

We are an eclectic bunch: our Siler City Arts District is home to potters, painters, sculptors and mixed media artists. We always feature our Twin Birch Products here at the shop as well as baskets, wearable art and even a “FRAGMENTS” room where you will find gently used spinning wheels, looms and fiber art tools.

Do you have clean fleece ready to work? Our fiber prep studio with wool picker and drum carder is waiting for you. Or choose ready to spin roving from our fiber room.

We’ll put together our Fall class schedule soon, so watch for this.

Stay cool and hope to see you soon!!!!

Shetland fleece doing its work

I took advantage of the cool morning and started working with a terrific Shetland  fleece from Diane at DLS Shetlands in Stark County Ohio.  I always snag a couple of her fleeces while we  take our Twin Birch Products on the road and are vendors at the Great Lakes Fiber Show in Wooster Ohio.
